A Runaways were the originative all-women band who performed proto-punk heavy metal music in the 1970s.

Widely believed at the period to develop been a novelty act formed by producer Kim Fowley, who thought a notion of 5 teenaged girls dressed around leather and lingerie performing heavy metal music was extremely marketable, a band freed its eponymic 1st album within 1976. A band's lineup was: Cherie Currie, lead vocals and keyboards Joan Jett, rhythm guitar and vocals Lita Ford, lead guitar Jackie Hound, bass guitar and vocals Sandy West, drums and vocals

Around 1977 Vicki Blue replaced Jackie Fox in bass guitar and Joan Jett took over when lead singer when a departure of Cherie Currie. Within 1978 Laurie McAllister replaced Vicki Blue. A band broke higher within 1979.

Jett & Ford each went in to achieve material profits when solo creative person in the 1980s. Currie went inside to the briefly successful career as an actress, appearing in Foxes with Jodie Foster, before falling into heavily drug utilize. She late recovered & wrote an autobiography, Neon Angel. West continued using music, every now and again swimming sustaining her previous bandmates.
